A NEW STANDARD FOR SCHOOL SOUND: WIREDUP BRINGS JBL VTX TO LOCUST VALLEY HIGH/MIDDLE SCHOOL

When the theatre at Locust Valley HS/MS needed a school auditorium sound system upgrade, Locust Valley Central School District needed more than a vendor. They needed a partner who could design, specify, and deliver a solution built to last. WiredUP stepped in, and the result became our first JBL VTX Series installation, and a new benchmark for what a school auditorium sound system can be.

A SYSTEM PAST ITS PRIME

The existing Martin Audio MSX and MLA system had been in place for years, but neglect had quietly taken its toll. Both subwoofers had failed, and at least two line array elements per side were no longer functional, leaving significant gaps in audio coverage throughout the space. What should have been a premium system had become an obstacle to every performance, presentation, and assembly that depended on it.

DESIGNING A SOLUTION

Before the project ever went out to bid, WiredUP got to work. Our team designed the replacement system from the ground up, and the room presented real acoustic challenges. The auditorium features a wide topography that demands wide horizontal coverage, as well as an upper-level seating area behind Front-of-House with a steeper rake that required careful consideration in the design.

The answer was the JBL VTX A6 — a compact, high-output line array element purpose-built for exactly this kind of application. To validate the design and ensure consistent coverage across every seat in the house, WiredUP submitted full VenueSynthesis prediction files directly to JBL for review and support. That level of acoustic modeling isn't just due diligence, it's the difference between a system that works and a system that works everywhere in the room.

THE SYSTEM AND WHY

The design is simple, yet wildly effective. It consists of 8 VTX A6 Elements and 2 VTX B15 Subwoofers. The entire package is powered off a single Crown I-Tech 4×3500HD Power Amplifier, reducing operating costs and increasing efficiency. The array also required no shading for consistent audio coverage throughout the room, allowing us to integrate only one amplifier for the entire PA. The entire PA is flown in a Left-Right configuration, which is clean, purposeful, and built to deliver even coverage from the front row to the back wall.

HARMAN CERTIFIED
JBL SUPPORTED

WiredUP completed this installation under our Harman Certified integration credentials, with direct support from JBL throughout the design and commissioning process. That relationship matters because it means every decision, from system design to final tuning, was made with the full backing of the manufacturer. It ensures that the products they designed and built sound great in a space that we designed and built.

THE RESPONSE WAS IMMEDIATE…

"Every student performance, every moment on that stage is going to sound the way it should," says Dennison DeNatalie, founder of WiredUP and system designer.

AnnMarie Buonaspina, Coordinator of Instructional Technology and Fine and Applied Arts for Locust Valley Central School District, was a little more direct: "Ah man those speakers sound SO good."

We’ll take it.

THE STAGE DOESN’T HAVE TO BE LOCAL.

This project is rooted right here on Long Island, but WiredUP's work isn't confined to any one region. We design and install professional AV systems for schools, performing arts venues, corporate spaces, hospitality, and more — across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, the Carolinas, the Mountain West, the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Wherever the space is, we bring the same process, the same credentials, and the same high standard of work.
