DITCH KITCHEN AND SURF BAR
The owners of “ditch” Kitchen & Surf Bar in Bay Shore, NY, understand the importance of quality audio for their guests. While we admit that the music being too loud or too quiet wouldn’t bother us because the food is so good, having the ability to control the audio system effectively is definitely an imperative thing in the restaurant world. After discussing the wants and needs with the owners of the establishment, WiredUP engineers all agreed that the QSC MP Series mixers would be a perfect fit.
In addition to the MP Series mixer, we specified Crown XLS series amplifiers due to their flexibility, cost effectiveness, efficiency, reliability and overall output power. The system is very simple, and is broken up into 4 main zones. Channel 1 on the XLS1502 feeds 4 Yamaha IC800 in-ceiling speakers in the main bar area, wired in series-parallel for an overall channel load of 4ohms. Channel 2 on the same XLS1502 feeds an additional 4 of the same speakers in the main dining room area, also wired in the same configuration. It was decided to wire the system like this due to budgetary constraints, utilizing pre-existing speaker wiring. Channel 1 on the XLS1002 feeds 2 JBL Control 25-1 Speakers, located on the Front Porch, and Channel 2 on the same. XLS1002 feeds an additional 2 JBL Control 25-1 Speakers, located on the Back Porch.
Playback music is played from a Sonos music server. Both TV Cable boxes were also integrated into the system. WiredUP installed two sets of XLR inputs for live band inputs. One set exists indoors, and the second set exists on the rear patio. These input plates are XLR line inputs, so they can be used to connect any device to, including but not limited to bands and DJ’s.
The flexibility of the MP-M40 Mixer allows for managers to play any input in any zone at any time. For example, if there are two live bands (one inside, one outside), each zone can be set to play the respective band/musician. In a similar fashion, if there’s a big game on, managers can set the bar area to playback the TV audio, while the dining room can still enjoy background music.
