From One Island To Another… We’ve Got You Covered!

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands —

WiredUP Designs, LLC was recently contacted by a return client who wanted us to provide entertainment services for their wedding in the Turks and Caicos Islands. While the initial conversation had us a little confused about how to logistically tackle this, we somehow always find a way to make it happen. That being said, our logistics staff went to work. We thought about ways of renting equipment on the island, but after calling 4 prospective locations with no reliable means of contact and no way to verify the businesses’ legitimacy, we came to the conclusion that we would have to bring our own equipment. The plan was now to fly down with our white sound system – because even if we did find a reliable audio rental agency in the country, what are the chances they offer white speakers and lights?

Our staff looked into options such as crating everything and shipping it, private flight with cargo space, but realistically, we ended up back at the traditional commercial flight route. Subsequently, every time we looked into a more specific option, we always “landed” back at commercial flights. With a little bit of research, and bubble wrap, we decided that we’d fly down and each check two items as checked bags.

One person checked our two Yamaha DXR powered speakers as their bags with personal items in a backpack and carry-on. Our DJ, DJ Resco, checked his mixer and a bag of cables and some personal items, with remaining personal items in a backpack. The day has come, and here we are at the airport, walking in with PA speakers and a DJ Mixer… and we definitely look like ‘those people’. We check in our items through the oversized baggage carousel, head through security, and here I am on a plane writing this on the way to Turks and Caicos. I’ll have to pick this up when we land back in cold New York…

When we landed in Turks and Caicos, we went through customs, picked up our gear, threw it in our rental car, and headed to our VRBO. We tested everything to confirm that it was all still functional - all good news all around. A short while later we headed over to the wedding venue to complete a site walkthrough with the venue staff. We saw where we’d be setting up, where ceremony and cocktail were, and a brief tour of the rest of the property.

The following day, we had some time to ourselves, so as any normal person would - we hit the beaches of Grace Bay. The warm (but not blistering hot) sand… clear waters… the sound of the waves… a much needed step out of the 9º New York weather when we left. Later Friday night, we headed over to the welcome party, where we provided a PA speaker with music and a microphone where guests enjoyed light refreshments and a fire-dancer.

Saturday rolled around, and we headed back over to the venue. We setup cocktail/reception and then headed back down to the private beach for the ceremony. Ceremony concluded rather quick, but the team was ready to get the speaker back over to the reception area. Sound checks were completed, and we were ready to party. And party these folks did - if not for local noise restrictions, they probably would’ve actually partied until the sun rose.

The following day we awoke to the sun shining and birds chirping once again. A day to ourselves - to hit the beaches and explore the island. On Monday, when it was finally time to depart, we headed over to the airport, checked our bags, and boarded the plane.

On a personal note: Well... what more can I say. By far one of the coolest weekends of my career. Flying to another country with audio equipment was no small task - and the logistics behind having a Long Island based company DJ a Wedding in Turks and Caicos was somehow even more difficult. Something about using the same equipment on an island over 1,000 miles from home was quite funny. I may be biased, but I'm incredibly lucky to have this awesome team behind the scenes that pushed through and made this whole project seem like a piece of cake. Without their hard work and dedication, none of this would have been possible.

Congratulations to the Venero's. Thank you for having us, and thanks for trusting WiredUP.
